Vectren has requested to increase their natural gas fixed rate from $18/month to $35/month. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) as set a public hearing regarding this increase for Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Dayton Municipal Building’s Council Chambers. Even a handful of people or more joining us in testifying against the increase makes a huge difference.
For comparison, here are the current fixed rates for the biggest natural gas providers in the state, all of which were set a decade ago:
- Columbia Gas: $17.81
- Dominion: $17.58
- Duke: $33.03
If this increase is approved, it means that instead of paying fixed rate fees of $216 per year, Vectren customers would end up paying $420 annually in fixed rate fees alone. That’s an extra $204 per year—nearly 95%! Just like any increase request, this will have the biggest impact on people with lower and fixed-incomes. It would also eliminate customers’ ability to control or reduce their costs.
Join us and tell the PUCO that you are against this rate hike!
