Mayor Jackson: There's got to be a better way

The city of Cleveland is proposing to build a garbage incinerator at the Ridge Road Transfer Station.

It would involve the cooking of trash at high temperatures and the release of toxic pollutants into the air.

Recycling and reuse of materials is more energy efficient than combustion, and could create hundreds of jobs.

The city should not gamble millions of dollars on unproven technology that could endanger my family's health.

We lose families with young children to the suburbs already because of the particulates from the steel mill – now you want more people afraid of athsma, mercury poisoning and cancer risks to flee. But then, I guess that is a good way to get rid of the waste problem – no people, no waste.

PLEASE DO NOT PUT THIS INCINERATOR IN OUR CITYTHERE HAS TO BE A BETTER SOLUTION.

How can your office promote community gardens and then approve this incenerator that will polute our enviroment and the ptoduce grown in these community gardens. We are not an experiment and realize the costs in human lives and suffering. Would you want your grandchildren exposed to these toxins and the potiental birth defects as well as health problems to existing residents.

How much money are you saving if all those medical costs were paid for by the city?

Yeah, this isn’t a good idea. At all. I live just a few blocks from the proposed area, and the traffic here is already insane. Our roads are beat up enough without 500+ garbage trucks coming through daily. It would be filthy, noisy, and detract from the nice neighborhood we live in. In addition, the concept of burning garbage with immeasurable pollutants into the air in Cleveland is ridiculous. Our air is terrible as it is; we don’t need to make it worse. As I understand, we already don’t meet certain clean air standards, so why put an incinerator here? Not to mention, the stentch is likely to ruin our neighborhood. This proposal needs to be shot down hard and fast. We can’t let this happen.

What a crackpot idea….the air here is already terrible. And the added traffic would be unbearable. Stop this nonsense. Years ago we learned our lessons from the short-lived Alpo factory on Denison Ave…..it stunk…just like Mayor Jackson’s brain-dead idea of the trash burner!

how can I help? also i need plenty of yard signs as I’ve lived on W102 over 50 years and know many many residents in the neighborhood.

We are taking giant steps back. Don’t jeopardize our health and the health of all living creatures. Take a stand for what is right and oppose this facility.
