The city of Cleveland is proposing to build a garbage incinerator at the Ridge Road Transfer Station.

It would involve the cooking of trash at high temperatures and the release of toxic pollutants into the air.

Recycling and reuse of materials is more energy efficient than combustion, and could create hundreds of jobs.

The city should not gamble millions of dollars on unproven technology that could endanger my family's health.

We should be focusing on sustainable energy, really, instead of ‘trash cooking’. I don’t think anyone is falling for the crap that ‘trash cooking’ as its been termed because of what the process involves is truly sustainable in any way.

I would love to see this investment redirected into a more efficient recycling program and community composting. Under the philosophy that “it’s not waste until you waste it,” we could divert SO much material from ending up in a landfill, contributing to methane gas and climate change. Many Clevelanders do not even have the luxury of a separate waste container for recyclables which would be a much better investment than an incerator/gasifier. Those of us who do have a separate container are baffled that it is smaller than the landfill-bound trash bin. It’s as if we’re encouraged to throw more away than we recycle when it could/should be the other way around. In an ideal situation of zero waste, manufacturers would only produce recyclable goods/packaging and the public would have easy access to recyling/composting programs and no energy is wasted hauling large amount of unusable to a landfill. Thank you. Sincerely, concerned citizen Jesse Varner

The city of Cleveland does NOT need another form of pollution in its city.

On a clear and warm summer night I have had the unfortunate experience of driving on 90 late at night and seen what the factories are dumping into the air. One minute the air is clear and the next its like the fog moved in from over the lake. It smellled so foul I could almost taste it.

I see history repeating itself. They will find a way to dump pollution into the air when they think no one is watching.

So much for being a green city by a blue lake.

I am strongly opposed to the building of this facility. The potential for contamination of air, soil and water is very high especially with the high winds abd heavy rainfall we are experiencing. I feel that it is a costly, dirty alternative which has not been thoroughly researched and evaluated. I’m in favor of composting and recycling.
