Join Ohio Citizen Action and allies to demand our state take climate action seriously, starting with an end to "the freeze."
Our legislature passed a freeze on clean energy standards in 2014, making Ohio the first state to move backward on clean energy policy. The freeze is set to expire at the end of this year, but state legislators are considering legislation in the lame-duck session to further weaken our state's commitment to a clean energy future.
The rally will kick off at 11am on the North Plaza of the Statehouse (Broad St) with chants and speakers to follow.
Following the rally, our staff members will drop off thousands of support statements and letters to Governor Kasich, urging him to take a stand on clean energy in Ohio. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather and bring your climate action posters!
We will then walk to the nearby Progress Ohio office, located at 35 E. Gay Street, for lunch and a debriefing. At 1 pm, Backbone Campaign staff will lead a 2-hour creative tactics training. If you'd like to learn how to plan better actions, make impressive props and get more media and excitement swirling around your campaigns, don't miss out on this free skill-building workshop!
Please note this will be a non-violent, all-ages action. All attendees are asked to conduct themselves safely, lawfully and respectfully with those who disagree with us and law enforcement.
The Statehouse has an underground parking garage, but it may fill up quickly.
There are meters and other lots around too, or you can go for the place you're most likely to find space, at a slightly lower price, at the Columbus Commons garage.
